Stamenic underlined that Serbia, aware of the existing challenges, remains committed to further progress in the process of democratisation, fulfilment of international obligations and reaching the highest standards, especially in the domain of human rights and full cooperation with competent international institutions.
She recalled that amendments to the Criminal Code have been adopted and specified that in the case of human trafficking in persons under eighteen years of age, the offender will be punished with the sanctions envisaged for this offence even if no force or threat was used, which is in line with the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings.
The Deputy Prime Minister also said that a new strategy for prevention and suppression of trafficking in human beings and protection of victims for the period from 2013 to 2018 is in the process of preparation, as well as an action plan for the period from 2013 to 2014.
