Presenting the European Commission’s report on Serbia’s progress in 2012, Fule stressed that the Serbian government is faced with a list of duties and tasks that have to be completed if the date for starting the accession talks is to be set.
He noted that Serbia is an important state in this region, stressing that there is no doubt that the EU is seriously committed to helping Serbia on its EU path.
Fule said that two main conclusions can be drawn from the latest European Commission report – that priorities in the period ahead must be visible and sustainable improvement of relations with Kosovo and that Serbia must continue its interior reform.
As for the interpretation of the phrase “territorial integrity of Kosovo”, mentioned in the Enlargement Strategy, Fule reiterated that there are no new conditions for Serbia’s EU entry, voicing his hope that all uncertainties have now been cleared.
Fule explained that the phrase “territorial integrity” does not predict Kosovo’s status or questions the neutrality of the European Commission, but simply indicates the stance which opposes any division of Kosovo.
He referred to the many positive steps which Serbia has made in the previous months and weeks in terms of combating corruption, voicing his hope that efforts in this respect will continue and that cooperation will be established between the police, the prosecution, the judicial system and the Ministry of Justice.
Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Suzana Grubjesic also attended the session.
