Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, and ministers in the Government of Serbia attended today at the Palace of Serbia a ceremony at which decorations were presented to deserving individuals and institutions on the occasion of Sretenje – Serbian Statehood Day, and the decorations were presented to the winners by President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić.

Vučić said on this occasion that we must try to preserve peace and our country, warning that the alliances that are being formed are designed to actively act against us.
The President emphasised that for this reason we must strengthen our economic capacities, institutions and army, expressing special gratitude to the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, who, as he pointed out, are going through difficult times and bear a huge burden of survival.
We will always stand by our people, protect them and be the guarantor of their survival, Vučić said.
The decorations of the Republic of Serbia represent the highest sign of public recognition, and are awarded for exceptional merits and deeds of great importance for the Republic of Serbia.
Serbian Statehood Day is celebrated on 15 February, on Sretenje, in memory of the beginning of the First Serbian Uprising in 1804, which started the restoration of Serbian statehood, as well as in memory of the day when the first constitution of the Principality of Serbia was adopted in Kragujevac in 1835.
