Vučić said at the square in front of the Gallery of the National Museum in Vranje that every war currently being waged in the world did not begin yesterday, but on 24 March 1999, with the attack on Serbia, and stressed that that was the day when the final whistle was blown on international law and order, truth and justice.
The President of Serbia added that, when asked why territories are being seized from some countries today and why their territorial integrity and sovereignty are being violated, the answer is again the same – because of the practice that was introduced on 24 March 1999.
Vučić recalled that Italian Nobel laureate Dario Fo wrote that this was a war that declared a lie to be the truth, noting that children, civilians, soldiers and police officers were killed during the 78-day NATO aggression.
The memorial service for the victims of NATO aggression was served by Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, together with the hierarchs and clergy of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
NATO’s aggression against the then FRY began on 24 March 1999 at 19:53, without the approval of the UN Security Council, which set a precedent.
According to data from the Ministry of Defence, 1,031 members of the army and police were killed during the NATO aggression, and 5,173 soldiers and police officers were wounded. Around 2,500 civilians were killed, including 89 children, and around 6,000 civilians were injured, including 2,700 children.
