Vucic, who is on a three-day visit to Cyprus, stressed that it is a great honour for Serbia to have its soldiers aiding the preservation of peace in Cyprus, adding that he is proud that the Serbian troops are held in such high esteem on the island.
We are proud of our history, and our Army is a big part of it, Vucic underlined, voicing his gratitude to the assistance which the UN mission is offering to our soldiers in Cyprus.
Buttenheim said she is very pleased that Serbian soldiers are part of the UN mission, noting that they are highly professional, well-prepared and under good command.
The Cypriot issue is still unresolved and the goal of the UN mission is to help the people of Cyprus to try and solve this situation, she observed.
The UNFICYP currently comprises 46 members of the Serbian Army.
All members of the Serbian contingent are engaged in regular activities within their units. Their tasks are supervision of the separation lines, prevention of hostilities between the two conflicting sides, providing support to humanitarian operations and establishing and maintaining the rule of law.
Vucic will today visit the Serbian soldiers stationed in Cyprus, in Sector 4, base 126 called “Stefan Nemanja”, reads a statement by the defence ministry.
