During a meeting with representatives from these two companies, led by NIS Director General Kirill Kravchenko and CMEC President Zhang Chun, Bacevic was familiarised with plans for revitalising the Kovin coal basin and constructing two thermal power plant blocks of 350 MW each on the territory of the basin.
Kravchenko noted that NIS has been granted the rights to conduct mining and geological research in this area and if the results are positive, these rights will be turned into the exploitation right.
However, Minister Bacevic observed that there is a legal problem here because Bulgaria’s Eko Analiz also possesses the same prospecting rights.
Having conducted talks with one of the interested parties, a promise was given to establish the right of priority as soon as possible and the next meeting will be summoned once the results are known.
Bacevic commended the intentions of NIS and the CMEC to expand the possibilities for an efficient exploitation of Serbia’s natural resources voicing the government’s readiness to offer all the necessary support to potential participants, reads a statement by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning.
