Nikolic thanked Putin for the invitation to today’s meeting and said that this meeting is the beginning of a completely new relations between Russia and Serbia.
The new Serbian government was formed, the members of the Intergovernmental Committee for Cooperation between Serbia and the Russian Federation were appointed, and its meeting was held and I expect we will soon begin working, Nikolic said.
The Serbian President also thanked the President of the Russian Federation for his personal involvement in the recent air show, held on 2 September in Belgrade, where three Russian aircraft were shown.
The two countries’ defence ministers and the people in charge of the military industry had meetings since then, Nikolic said and added that contacts in the field of energy were intensified too.
Putin, greeting Nikolic, said that he would take advantage of this meeting to analyse bilateral relations, especially trade and economic, which, he added, are in a stalemate after the growth recorded in the first half of last year.
According to the Russian President, the theme of the talks will also be the situation in the region.
The two presidents will also discuss the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries in all key areas, particularly in the area of trade and energy, including the implementation of the strategic South Stream project.
They will also address cooperation in other sectors of the economy where there is Russian business present such as metallurgy, machine building, tourism and banks.
New projects in energy, transportation, infrastructure, as well as credit and financial area are also being developed.
The Serbian delegation, in addition to the President, includes Minister of Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Mrkic and Minister of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning Milan Bacevic.
The delegation of the Russian Federation comprises Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Energy Alexander Novak, Advisor to the President Yuri Ushakov and Special Adviser to the President Alexander Babakov.
