Exports of goods amounted to $3.7 billion, up 34.4 percent from 2003, and imports stood at $11.14 billion, a 49.1 percent increase against 2003.
The 2004 merchandise trade deficit widened 57.7 percent against the previous year to $7.44 billion.
Export-to-import ratio was 33.2 percent in 2004, down from 36.9 percent in 2003.
Most of the 2004 exports were intermediate goods, which accounted for 65.4 percent of total merchandise exports, followed by consumer goods at 28.1 percent, and equipment at 6.5 percent.
Visible imports were also dominated by intermediate goods, which made up 56.1 percent of total imports. They were followed by consumer goods, 22.5 percent, and equipment, which accounted for 21.4 percent of total imports of goods in 2004.
Most of Serbia’s visible exports in 2004 went to Bosnia-Herzegovina ($650.3 million), Italy ($486 million), and Germany ($372.7 million).
The major exporters of goods to Serbia were Germany ($1.5 billion), Russia ($1.4 billion), and Italy ($1.06 billion).
