Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović stated today that the construction of the Kostolac wind farm is in its final phase, with trial operation expected to begin in the autumn.
While touring the construction site of the wind farm, the first in state energy company Elektroprivreda Srbije’s (EPS) portfolio, Đedović Handanović noted that the facility will provide an additional 66 MW of green energy capacity.
All 20 wind turbines have already been installed, she said, adding that works on the substation and the wind farm’s connection to the grid are nearing completion.
Đedović Handanović announced that in the coming days, the Petka solar power plant, with a capacity of nearly 10 MW, will also be connected to the grid in Kostolac.
She pointed out that Serbia’s wind and solar capacities have increased by 85%, over the past two years, bringing the country closer to the goal of producing 45% of electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030.
The Kostolac wind farm project is financed through a loan from Germany’s KfW Development Bank, worth €110 million, while the European Union’s grant funds, provided through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), amount to €30 million. A portion of the investment is financed by EPS.
