Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović confirmed that the government has sent a letter to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Department of the Treasury, in which she supported the request of Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) to extend the valid operating licence for an additional 180 days after 27 June.

Government supports request for new postponement of sanctions against NIS

Đedović Handanović explained that the goal is to preserve the security of supply of oil and oil derivatives in Serbia and prevent serious negative consequences of the introduction of sanctions on Serbian citizens and economy.
She pointed out that Europe and the world today, perhaps more than ever before, are faced with uncertainties in the global oil market and a price increase of as much as 20% in the past two weeks, all due to the conflict in the Middle East.
According to her, additional disruptions to supply chains, combined with possible sanctions against NIS, could jeopardize Serbia’s energy security in the worst possible way and negatively affect our citizens, but also the residents of the entire region, which is why representatives of the US administration have been asked for a new postponement of sanctions, i.e., an extension of NIS’s operating licence.
