First solar power plant Petka in Kostolac put into trial operation

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović emphasised today, during the commissioning of the first solar power plant in Kostolac, that this is an important pioneering turning point in our energy sector and the beginning of the energy transition of Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS).

Đedović Handanović stated that the 10-megawatt solar power plant Petka will produce clean energy on the site of an old mining dump, which is also a good example of how we can use old energy for new.

She reminded that in this mining area today, in addition to the solar power plant Petka, the wind turbines of the first EPS wind farm are also being erected, which were also built mainly on reclaimed tailings dumps.

According to her, the connection of this power plant to the grid and the testing phase are expected in August, when the propellers will spin, which will strengthen our electricity system in Kostolac by 76 megawatts of green energy.

EPS General Director Dušan Živković said that the first EPS solar power plant in Kostolac has a capacity of 10 megawatts, and with the wind farm that will be on the grid in the coming period and the 350 megawatts of block B3 from the end of last year, this area is energetically stronger by 426 megawatts.
