The Serbian parliament adopted today changes to the Law on bases of organisation of security services, which stipulate that as of now the function of the secretary of the National Security Council will be performed by a person appointed and dismissed by the president of the Republic.
The changes to the law were supported by 138 MPs and 52 were against.
The proposer of the changes explained that the new solution expands the field of democratic civil control because the secretary is appointed and dismissed by the president of the Republic, which is in line with the legal solution contained in the Law on the president of the Republic.
Until now, that function was performed by the head of the office of the president of the republic.
