Once the Commission’s auditors determine that the established system is acceptable, Serbia will have a system of financial management and control based on the strictest international standards, in line with which it can begin with independent management and implementation of projects worth €200 million a year.
At the same time, this is a precondition for Serbia to ask for an increase in these funds.
This was an important moment on the EU path for all EU candidate states, which now manage their IPA funds independently, because this implies a considerable step forward in the quality of public administration and more intensive cooperation with the European Commission in Brussels.
Work on establishing a system of decentralised management of IPA funds began in 2007, the statement recalls.
