Speaking about local elections, the law prescribes that the elections for deputies must be held 30 days at the latest before the end of mandate of current deputies.
The elections for deputies are called by the Serbian Parliament Speaker and they must be held in the period from 45 to 60 days for the day they were convoked.
President of Vojvodina Assembly Sandor Egeresi stated today that the elections for Vojvodina Assembly will be held on 6 May, along local and parliamentary elections.
The elections in Vojvodina will be carried out based on a mixed election system, in line with the decision on the election of representatives.
This decision envisages that of the total of 120 MPs in the Vojvodina assembly, 60 are to be elected according to the proportional representation system and 60 according to the majority election system.
This was decided in order to ensure that each of the 45 municipalities in Vojvodina has at least one representative in the assembly, and to increase the chances of national minorities to have their representatives elected.
Earlier today Serbian President Boris Tadic
called parliamentary elections.
