Speaking at the meeting of the Serbian Parliament’s Committee for Kosovo-Metohija, Stefanovic said that dialogue will be continued after the New Year if Pristina agrees to respect the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 regarding the regional representation.
He presented to members of the Committee the agreements reached – on university diplomas, integrated crossing points management and the freedom of movement.
When it comes to the freedom of movement, or the control of passage of administrative lines which came into force yesterday, Stefanovic said that the issue of insurance that the citizens are forced to pay was not the part of the negotiation process.
He repeated that the preparation of the text of technical agreements of the two associations of insurance companies - of central Serbia and the province of Kosovo-Metohija is underway, which will be status neutral and will exempt citizens from paying the above-mentioned fees.
Stefanovic voiced his expectation that this will be completed as soon as possible, explaining that the high insurance costs result from the fact that Kosovo-Metohija is not a member of the “green card” and it therefore individually determines the fees. Another reason is that insurance companies in Serbia rely on international fees when determining the costs on their side.
Until an agreement between two associations of insurance companies is achieved, we will try to find a solution so that persons using KS licence plates are not damaged in any way, he said.
As for university degrees, he stressed that the agreement has been reached in line with the Serbian Constitution and laws, stressing that it does not recognise the symbols of the so-called Kosovo state in any way.
The University in Pristina will issue a substitute diploma without any symbols and the diplomas will be recognised with the help of the European University Association, he observed.
Stefanovic underlined that the agreement on integrated crossing points management will be implemented at all crossings with Kosovo-Metohija without displaying any symbols, flags, coats of arms or border stones.
