Zoran Stojkovic
Minister Stojkovic told Ambassador Lloveras that all laws under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice that were adopted in the Serbian parliament, that are currently in parliamentary proceedings or are in preparation were harmonised with European standards and were favourably assessed by experts of the Council of Europe.
Speaking about the draft of the national anti-corruption strategy, the Minister said that a public discussion is underway thus enabling all objections and opinions on the document to be considered for inclusion in the Action Plan and the future law, which is expected to be passed in spring.
The priorities of the Ministry of Justice for the next period are securing an independence of courts and advanced training of judges and prosecutors. This will help address major problems of the Serbian judiciary, those being lengthy proceedings and a shortage of expert judicial professionals, Stojkovic stressed.
Head of the European Commission delegation to Serbia-Montenegro Josep Lloveras said that owing to favourable reports by EU institutions on cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, especially by the European Agency for Reconstruction, the European Union plans to set aside substantial assistance to Serbia in 2005 in all fields, including judiciary.
