Minister of Defence Dragan Sutanovac stressed that since the outbreak of the crisis in northern Kosovo-Metohija, his Ministry and the Serbian Army have acted in line with their authorisations and the international agreement, aspiring to prevent conflict escalation and the loss of lives on both sides.
Addressing an emergency Parliament session, Sutanovac stressed that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian government are in constant communication with KFOR and the commander of NATO’s southern wing.
The Minister said that in the days ahead, Serbia’s defence system will make a contribution to diplomatic efforts to find a resolution to the crisis in the province.
We believe that there is willingness on both sides and that KFOR, although it occasionally overstepped the limits of its mandate, does not wish to enter into conflict with Serbs in the province, Sutanovac observed.
He reiterated that it is necessary to return to the state of affairs before the crisis broke out on 25 July.
Sutanovac submitted a report on activities of military diplomacy to MPs, specifying that on 27 July in Nis, Serbian Army representatives held a meeting with the KFOR deputy commander.
He also observed that NATO and members of the Partnership for Peace were informed about the situation in Kosovo-Metohija on the same day and were asked for their support to the return of the situation as it was before the crisis, and for creating conditions to resume dialogue.
