Addressing an emergency session of the Serbian Parliament, Jeremic underlined that there is deep frustration among the ranks of Pristina authorities because of the failure to acquire membership in political and international organisations, which is one of the reasons for their unilateral use of force.
The Minister stressed that this is not the first time force has been used, recalling the pogrom in the province of March 2004.
The scenario is similar, he said, noting that Pristina authorities now aspire to create circumstances in the international arena that would lead to progress in the achievement of their goals. However, when the crisis broke out, the Serbian government and other state organs reacted immediately.
Jeremic recalled that Serbia reacted promptly and demanded a session of the UN Security Council, adding that three permanent members threatened to use their right to veto, but that despite consultations behind closed door, Serbia managed to present its view of the crisis to all UN members.
We demand to know who ordered the unilateral entry of the Regional Operational Support Unit (ROSU) at administrative crossings of Jarinje and Brnjak, whether anyone in the international community had known about these plans and if they had not, then why was it so, as well as why EULEX withdrew from northern Kosovo and left Serbs, the Minister observed.
A session of the OSCE Permanent Council was also held at which Serbia’s stances were presented; furthermore, ambassadors from the United States, France, the UK, Germany and Italy were acquainted with Serbia’s stance at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They were also briefed about the demand that the situation in the north of Kosovo should be returned to the original state.
In the period ahead, we intend to remain engaged to the maximum and we are in daily contact with a majority of states. Later in august, a session of the UN Security Council on Kosovo-Metohija will also take place, Jeremic noted.
He called upon Serbian MPs to remain united because thus they will help Serbia in its diplomatic activities to retain the province.
