Serbian Minister of Trade, Tourism and Services Bojan Dimitrijevic said today that consumer purchasing power stabilised in October, noting that 84 percent of an average net salary was able to purchase the minimum consumer price basket. He went on to say that 1.37 salaries would be necessary to purchase the average consumer price basket for October.
Dimitrijevic told a press conference that retail prices went up by 1.2 percent month-on-month, climbing 11 percent since December last year. He expressed hope that such price growth trend will continue, so that this year ends with a 12.1 percent inflation rate.

Dimitrijevic said that postal services will jump by 8.5 percent by the end of 2004, noting that gasoline prices will also be corrected soon. He announced that medicines will go up by 20 percent in January.
The Minister said that the Ministry and the Statistics Office are drafting a new methodology for calculating the consumer price basket according to EU standards.
