The European Parliament ratified the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Serbia in Strasbourg today, and adopted a new Resolution on Serbia’s European Integration, drafted by European Parliament rapporteur Jelko Kacin.
A total of 612 MPs voted in favour of the ratification, while 38 were against it. Before the voting on the resolution began, MPs stated their stances on nine amendments, most of which were adopted.
The Resolution about Serbia underlines that the decision of the EU Council to make a new step towards Serbia’s accession is an important contribution to stability in the Western Balkans.
The proposal of the Resolution states that the Serbian authorities should continue implementing reforms, as they have done so far, as well as continue their full cooperation with The Hague, complete the reform of the judiciary and improve the fight against corruption so that Serbia may progress towards EU membership.
