Mandatory military service abolished

The Serbian parliament adopted today the Decision on abolition of mandatory military service and the Law on amendments to the Law on military, labour and material obligation.
Other laws adopted today are the Law on amendments to the Law on state administration, the Law on amendments to the Law on tobacco and the Law on amendments to the Law on games of chance.
The parliament confirmed the agreements between the governments of Serbia and Montenegro on the exchange of means and documents and on cooperation in the protection from natural and other disasters.
The parliament ratified the agreements on scientific and technological cooperation with the governments of Italy, the United States and Austria, as well as the agreement on youth mobility signed with France.
The parliament confirmed the agreement with Spain on the employment of family members of diplomatic, consular, administrative and technical staff of diplomatic and consular missions, as well as the agreement with Belgium on the performance of lucrative business activities of certain family members of staff of diplomatic and consular missions.
The agreement with Uruguay on abolishing visas for holders of diplomatic and official passports was ratified, as well as the agreement with the government of Kazakhstan on abolishing visas for their citizens.
The parliament ratified the Memorandum of understanding with the government of the Netherlands on lucrative activities of dependents of diplomatic and other personnel of diplomatic and consular missions.
The parliament ratified the revised European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data, and the European Convention on Extradition with additional protocols.
MPs confirmed the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Dignity of the Human Being with regard to the Application of Biology and Medicine and the Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine.
The parliament ratified the Agreement on cooperation in health with Kuwait and also social security agreements with Cyprus and Switzerland.
MPs confirmed agreements with Argentina and Tunisia on cooperation in the veterinary field, the Memorandum of understanding with Egypt on veterinary cooperation, and the Agreement on scientific and technological cooperation in agriculture with Tunisia.
MPs also ratified the Agreement on international road transport with Belgium.
The adoption of these documents concluded the sixth session of the autumn sitting of parliament, which started on 30 November.
The parliament began a new session with a 12 point agenda.
