Ciplic stated at a press conference that by 17.00, the turnout was 37.57% of the total of 436,000 registered voters. It is estimated that over 50% of registered voters cast their votes by the closing of polling places at 20.00.
The national minorities have shown that they are interested in setting up national councils, Ciplic confirmed.
The final results are expected to be released after 9 June and the legal deadline for setting up national councils is 29 June.
Nineteen national minorities went to elections to choose their national councils – 16 through direct elections, and Croats, Macedonians and Slovenians through indirect election, ie through electoral commission.
President of the Central Electoral Commission Rozalija Torde outlined that the greatest turnout was recorded in the Lucani municipality, 85%, and the smallest in the Veliko Gradiste municipality, only 6.5%.
