Dinkic said that the proposed amendment to the law has been introduced in order to reduce differences between regions, provide balanced regional development and maintain the population in the areas.
He stated that the original seven statistical regions were unequal in population, while the newly formed five will be approximately equal in all respects, including the number of population, in order to be comparable.
The proposed amendments to the Law on regional development provide for the formation of five regions of the same population, such as Vojvodina, the Belgrade region, Sumadija and Western Serbia, Southern and Eastern Serbia and Kosovo-Metohija, he said.
The task of the government, and any future government will be to reduce differences in the degree of development of the region, said Dinkic.
The Minister pointed to the importance of decentralisation of Serbia and also said that the ultimate and best solution for Serbia is political decentralisation.
The Minister said that the essence of decentralisation is to transfer as much political and economic power to local governments first, and then to regions.
He added that Serbia should continue to build a model that currently works in Italy, Spain and most European countries.
MPs will also discuss today amendments to a Law on the right to free shares and financial compensation in the process of privatisation, a Law on the Privatisation Agency and a Law on metrology.
