Presenting the report on BIA activities in the period March–October 2009 to the Serbian parliament’s Committee on Defence and Security, Vukadinovic stressed that the key segment of BIA’s work is the fight against secessionism and terrorism regarding the illegal proclamation of Kosovo-Metohija’s independence.
He specified that in 2009 the Agency perceived the intention of Albanian leaders in the province to take a different approach in order to force the province under their sway.
Unlike their activities in the past, which involved violence, they started settling Albanians in the northern part of Kosovo, especially in Brdjani, Vukadinovic said.
The BIA chief said that there were other forms of pressure put on the Serbian population, such as the confiscation of property, fabricated court procedures against Serbs for alleged crimes and cuts in electricity supplies.
Vukadinovic said that there might be illegal armed formations of Albanians in Kosovo which were not used in 2009, but might be in 2010.
He said that the BIA is fully engaged in finding the remaining Hague indictees, especially Ratko Mladic, adding that this is an absolute priority in the Agency’s work in the upcoming period.
The arrest of Hague indictees is not only an obligation of the BIA, but of all other relevant state organs as well, Vukadinovic said.
Speaking about the fight against organised crime, Vukadinovic recalled that the operation to confiscate 2 tons of cocaine in Latin America was organised in cooperation between BIA and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), with the help of Latin American countries.
