EU foreign ministers decided today in Brussels to unfreeze the interim trade agreement with Serbia, after a positive report from Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz, concerning Serbia’s cooperation with the tribunal, with which The Netherlands also agreed.
The key factor in unfreezing the agreement was Brammertz’s stance that Serbia’s cooperation with the Hague tribunal is increasingly more satisfactory, which was assessed by the EU foreign ministers as good progress.
The meeting of EU foreign ministers is part of the preparations for the upcoming summit of heads of states and governments of the EU, scheduled for December 10 and 11.
EU Enlargement Commissioner Ollie Rehn said before the meeting that EU enlargement will probably be discussed because it proved that enlargement projects brought stability to the Western Balkans.
He said that it is time for the EU to make further decisions on the integration of Western Balkan countries.
