Continental Banka, Novosadska Banka attract considerable buyer interest

The Serbian Ministry of Finance said that leading banks and financial organisations from Europe have expressed interest in the privatisation of Continental Banka and Novosadska Banka.
Five banks, including Austria's largest bank Erste Bank der Oesterreichischen Sparkassen AG, Italian Banca Intesa and UniCredito Italiano, and Greek EFG Eurobank Ergasias and Piraeus Bank have submitted letters of intent for Novosadska Banka, the Ministry said in a statement.
The sale of Continental Banka has drawn letters of intent from British General Electric, Slovenia's biggest bank Nova Ljubljanska Banka, as well as EFG Eurobank Ergasias and Piraeus Bank.
Prospective new owners had until October 22 to submit letters of intent, the statement said, adding that the sale of controlling stakes in the two banks is due to be completed by the end of February 2005.
