Serbian Minister of Justice Snezana Malovic said, presenting the bill on data confidentiality, that this bill will establish the criteria for the classification of information of national interest.
She explained that the bill defines who will have the authority to classify information, the rules for determining degrees of classification of information and the deadlines and conditions for declassification.
She said that the bill is of immense importance for the normative regulation of the classification of information in Serbia, adding that Serbia is one of the rare countries in Europe where there are no clear and precise laws applicable to the confidentiality of data.
Malovic said that data confidentiality is currently regulated by over 400 sub-laws, adding that this is not adequate for either national security or the rights of the public.
She said that in the future confidential data will be classified according to four categories..
Minister of Culture Nebojsa Bradic said presenting the amendments to the Bill on free access to information of public interest that the amendments have been designed with the intention of making it easier for the public to access information.
He explained that the bill shortens the deadlines for issuance of information of public information and it is envisaged that the general public will have the right to receive information in the requested format.
