Speaking in the Serbian Parliament about the bill concerning Serbia’s national coat of arms, the national flag and the national anthem, Dulic said that national symbols that are deeply embedded in the collective memory of a nation are the emblems of its sovereignty.
He stressed that national symbols should be chosen carefully and it must be ensured that they are lasting.
The Minister explained that the starting point for drafting the bill was the fact that Serbia has a long European history and a strong tradition of statehood, adding that through this bill, for the first time, constitutional decrees will also be regulated by law.
He said that according to the Constitution Serbia’s national coat of arms is to be used as the Big Coat of Arms as well as the Small Coat of Arms and Serbia’s national anthem is Boze Pravde (Lord of Justice).
According to the bill, the civil flag is a horizontal tri-colour, its three parts are of equal dimensions and the colour progress from red to blue to white, from top to bottom. The state flag has an added national Small Coat of Arms, said Dulic.
The Minister said that according to the bill the national anthem Boze Pravde, written by Jovan Djordjevic and composed by Davorin Jenko.
