Following a meeting with US Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues Clint Williamson, Ljajic told the Tanjug news agency that the US administration no longer has reasons to doubt Serbia’s intentions to conclude cooperation with the tribunal as soon as possible.
Ljajic attended the first prayer breakfast since the recent inauguration of the new US President, Barrack Obama, and invited Williamson to visit Belgrade and see for himself that Serbia is not merely showing political willingness, but is indeed ready to conclude the Hague issue.
Ljajic, who is also member of the action team to locate and arrest Hague indictees Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic, said he feels that for the first time Serbia has not only been given recognition for its efforts, but also full support.
The Minister said that during the meeting they also talked about human organ trafficking and crimes committed against the Serbian and non-ethnic Albanian population in Kosovo-Metohija.
He said that Williamson promised the support of the US administration to Serbia’s efforts to conclude the cooperation with the ICTY.
During his stay in Washington, Ljajic also held a series of meetings with other representatives of the US administration, the Congress, the Senate, as well as with representatives from the UN Security Council.
