In a statement to the press, Dragutinovic said that 244 amendments to the proposed 2009 budget have been submitted, adding that the government will endorse as many amendments as possible in order to speed up its adoption.
She pointed out that the government will carefully consider all amendments and will not withdraw the 2009 budget bill if it does not reach an agreement with the opposition parties.
The Minister said that the government is also ready for temporary financing from the budget.
She said that provisional financing will differ from financing from next year’s budget only in the government’s right to determine expenditure and subsidies according to its discretion, adding that the government will have to exercise economy.
Dragutinovic said that the arrangement with the IMF will not be jeopardized if Serbia has to resort to provisional financing because for the IMF it is important that the Serbian government adopts a budget for 2009, which has already been done, while the method of financing the state cannot have any effect on the agreement.
Serbian parliament speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic has scheduled consultations with whips to be held on December 23 at 11 am, in order to discuss the 2009 budget. The consultations will be attended by Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and Minister of Finance Diana Dragutinovic.
