Speaking about amendments to the law on travel documents, Dacic said that it had not been possible to change all passports in the previous months, therefore parliament recommended that the old passport remain valid until the end of 2009.
Dacic invited all citizens to change their travel documents as soon as possible, in order to avoid crowding in police stations.
Speaking of the importance of travel documents for EU integration, Dacic stressed that visa regime liberalisation will be valid only for those who carry the new biometric passports.
Dacic also recalled that new passports for the Diaspora are being issued only in
Dusseldorf and Paris and specified that Serbian citizens abroad have submitted 142 applications so far.
According to him, Serbian citizens in the Diaspora will be in an unfavourable position if the deadline for the issuance of new passports is not extended.
Dacic pointed out that 114,815 citizens have applied for new passports, while 257,042 have applied for new ID cards, adding that, from November 1 only the new biometric passports will be issued.
