Tadic will hold a speech on the first day of the general debate, which will end on October 1, taking place at the UN headquarters in New York where presidents and prime ministers from member countries meet every year.
The Serbian President yesterday talked with UN General Assembly President Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann, who said that with Belgrade’s initiative the issue of intentional law will be brought back to the heart of the discussion on the future of this international organisation.
In his address to the press, Tadic said that the new UN General Assembly President told him that this organisation cannot function without the respect of international law, which is why Serbia’s initiative is so important for the future of the UN.
After October 6, the UN General Assembly will speak out on Serbia’s proposed resolution to ask the ICJ for an advisory opinion on the legality of Kosovo’s independence.
The Serbian delegation attending the UN General Assembly also includes Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic.
