The UN General Assembly at its plenary session today officially included Serbia’s request for an advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on whether the unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo is in accordance with international law, as an item on the agenda of its 63rd session.
The US did not vote at the plenary session in which heads of UN member states’ delegations participated.
The Serbian resolution will be discussed at the General Assembly within the framework of issues concerning “the advancing of justice and international law”, but it is still not known on which date the issue will be taken up.
On September 17, the UN General Committee
unanimously accepted Serbia’s request to examine and vote on a resolution seeking an advisory opinion of the ICJ on the legality of Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence at the 63rd session.
A general debate will be held at the UN headquarters from September 23 to October 1, attended by heads of states, where
Serbia will be represented by President Boris Tadic.
