Djukic-Dejanovic who is deputy president of the Socialist Party of Serbia was supported by MPs from the Socialist Party of Serbia – Party of United Pensioners of Serbia – United Serbia coalition, the coalition “For a European Serbia” and MPs representing national minorities.
MPs belonging to the Serbian Radical Party, the coalition Democratic Party of Serbia – New Serbia, and the Liberal Democratic Party voted against.
The election of Djukic-Dejanovic as parliament speaker also formally establishes the new parliamentary majority.
Following her election as parliament speaker she took over chair of the session from most senior MP Jovan Krkobabic and scheduled the session to be continued on June 26 at 12 noon, while consultations with whips of the caucuses will be held at 11 am.
This ended today’s part of the constitutive session, which began on June 11 with verification of mandates of the newly elected MPs.
At the continuation of the first session MPs are to elect six deputy heads, form 30 parliamentary committees and appoint a parliamentary secretary, which will conclude the constitutive session of the new Serbian parliament.
