Local and international experts on criminal penalties, representatives of the OSCE, the Helsinki Federation for Human Rights, the Serbian Ministry of Justice’s criminal penalties office and prison managers gathered in Belgrade today to debate changes and amendments to the criminal penalties enforcement law. The round table was organised by the criminal penalties office and the Council of Europe.
According to Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic, the proposed changes and amendments aim to reduce repression in prisons and introduce court protection for prisoners and sentenced persons.
Silvija Paunovic-Djuric, a legal advisor to the Council of Europe Belgrade office, said that the Council of Europe has good cooperation with the Serbian Ministry of Justice, particularly when it comes to bringing domestic legislation up to European Union standards.
