Thus the previous mandates ended and the four-year mandate for new parliament members began.
Furthermore, the 90 day deadline also began within which parliament is to appoint the new Serbian government.
By verifying the mandates, today’s parliament session ended. President of the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia Jovan Krkobabic, who being the eldest parliament member chaired the session, said that MPs will be informed on the continuation of the session in due course.
The constitutive session is defined by the Constitution and the parliament’s Code of Practice, which envisage that once the mandates are verified, MPs are to appoint a parliament speaker and his deputy, members of working bodies and a parliament secretary.
According to the results of parliamentary elections, the new parliament convocation comprises the list “For a European Serbia” – 102 seats, the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) – 78 seats, the coalition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) – New Serbia (NS) – 30 seats, the coalition the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) – Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS) – United Serbia (JS) – 20 seats, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) – 13 seats, the Hungarian Coalition – four seats, the Bosniak List for European Sandzak – two and the Coalition Albanians from the Presevo Valley – one seat.
