The agreement was signed by Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic on behalf of Serbia, an on behalf of the EU, by the Chairman of the EU Council, Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dimitrij Rupel.
Immediately before signing the agreement, Djelic said that Serbia will be stronger and respected when it enters the EU and that her voice will be heard.
He underlined that only a strong Serbia, which courageously fights against all injustices done to her, will be able to achieve its interests.
The Serbian Deputy Prime Minister stressed that Serbia belongs to Europe and that we are a European nation and that our roots are planted deep down in European history, and added that Serbia will enter the EU with its identity and that it will contribute fully to the development of Europe and its values.
That is why today we are assuming responsibility to secure a much better future for our people, one they fully deserve, Djelic said and added that that is true patriotism.
The Serbian Deputy Prime Minister voiced hope that Serbia is capable and willing to become an EU candidate by the end of the year. He added that the preparation of a national EU integration programme, which contains all elements for full implementation of the SAA, is in its final phase.
