Vojislav Kostunica
In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, Kostunica said that it is in fact irrelevant whether the Netherlands will consent to the signing of the SAA before May 11, because that is not the real question.
He stressed that the issue is Serbia’s stance on the SAA, which NATO could tomorrow interpret as Serbia’s signing away Kosovo as the first NATO state.
According to him, the Netherlands acknowledged Kosovo’s unilateral independence and thus most harshly contravened the initialled SAA.
Therefore, the Netherlands has absolutely no right to impose any conditions to Serbia. On the contrary, it is more than natural and requisite that Serbia should demand clear guarantees from the Netherlands and from all EU states that recognised the fictitious Kosovo state in order to be certain that the SAA refers to Serbia in its entirety, reiterated the Prime Minister.
He once again noted that Serbia must lead serious talks with the EU to clear up all disputable issues, because Serbian citizens have the right to know and must know what is to be signed on their behalf.
No one has the right to put Serbia’s signature to a document which might afterwards be interpreted as its recognition of Kosovo’s independence, concluded Kostunica.
