Director of the Belgrade Land Development Agency Boris Rankovic and representatives of the consortium consisting of the Austrian company Porr Technobau, SCT from Slovenia, and DSD Brukenbau signed today an agreement on the construction of a bridge at Ada Ciganlija worth €118.6 million.
Serbian Minister without Portfolio in charge of implementing the National Investment Plan (NIP) Dragan Djilas said following the signing that the bridge across the River Sava will become a symbol of Belgrade.
According to Djilas, the construction of the bridge will make it possible to cross the river without facing traffic jams.
Acting Mayor of Belgrade Zoran Alimpic recalled that the most recently built bridge for road traffic in Belgrade the Gazela was built in 1974, and in the meantime the population of New Belgrade has grown significantly which made it all the more necessary to construct another bridge.
He said that the moment has arrived for Belgrade to get a new road traffic and railway bridge as a recognisable symbol of the city.
President of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts Nikola Hajdin said that the bridge with its urban, ecological and aesthetic standards will be a new achievement in bridge design.
The bridge will be built in 40 months on the lower section of Ada Ciganlija and will be 929 meters long and 45 meters wide.
The basic design of the bridge was prepared in 2006 and the tender was called in 2007 attracting the participation of eight companies, both domestic and foreign.
