Strengthening strategic partnership between Serbia, Uzbekistan

Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov assessed today that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Belgrade represents a significant impetus for the further development of bilateral relations, as well as confirmation of the mutual political commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation.

Đurić emphasised that Serbia particularly values the intensification of political dialogue with Uzbekistan, as well as the friendly and partnership relations that the two countries have been building in recent years.

The Minister noted that the final steps are underway towards opening the Embassy of Serbia in Uzbekistan, which will provide an additional boost to the development of relations between the two countries.

He particularly highlighted the importance of regular high-level contacts between the relevant ministries of the two countries, as well as holding business forums and activities involving representatives of the business communities to further enhance economic cooperation and increase trade and investment.

Pointing to the high level of mutual understanding between the two countries, the head of Serbian diplomacy expressed gratitude to Uzbekistan for its consistent support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia regarding Kosovo and Metohija.

Given Uzbekistan’s upcoming chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement for the 2027-2029 period, the importance of the Movement was highlighted as an important platform for strengthening international cooperation, political dialogue and promoting the shared interests of member states, as well as an additional opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Serbia and Uzbekistan.

Đurić welcomed Uzbekistan’s confirmation of participation in Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade, assessing that it will make a significant contribution to this prestigious international event.

During President Mirziyoyev’s visit to Serbia today, Đurić signed with his Uzbek counterpart the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on interregional cooperation, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan on cooperation in the field of economic diplomacy.
