Harmonisation with European standards in field of transport

Belgrade, 7 September 2026

Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starović spoke today with the newly appointed Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community, Tālis Linkaits, about improving transport connectivity between Serbia and the region, implementing European standards and the importance of modern infrastructure for the process of accession to the European Union.

Starović wished Linkaits success in performing his new duties and expressed his belief that the successful cooperation between Serbia and the Transport Community to date will be continued and further improved.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the implementation of priority transport projects, improving railway and road infrastructure, increasing traffic safety and eliminating congestion at border crossings.

The interlocutors assessed that better connectivity of the Western Balkans with the EU transport market and networks brings concrete benefits to citizens and businesses, stimulates economic development and represents an important part of the region's European integration.

The participants in the meeting confirmed the readiness to continue cooperation in implementing reforms and harmonising with European standards in the field of transport, with the aim of creating a safer, more efficient and more sustainable transport system.
