Successful cooperation with Council of Europe on improvement of human, minority rights

Belgrade, 4 September 2026

Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue Demo Beriša talked today with Acting Head of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade Evgenia Giakoumopoulou about topics of importance for the improvement of the position of all citizens, with a special focus on the fight against discrimination and the protection of rights of national minorities represented in Serbia.

On that occasion, it was assessed that the mutual cooperation to date has been successful and substantive, with a special focus on activities that contribute to the improvement of the position of vulnerable and socially sensitive groups.

Beriša emphasised that continuous dialogue with international partners is very important for the improvement of policies in the field of human and minority rights, as well as for the exchange of experiences and good practices.

Beriša expressed his gratitude to the Council of Europe representatives for the successful cooperation so far and confirmed the Ministry's readiness to continue with open dialogue and joint work.

The meeting was also attended, on behalf of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade, by Coordinator of the project "Fighting Discrimination and Promoting Diversity in Serbia" Svetlana Rakić.
