Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica called on the leadership of the European Swimming League (LEN) today to allow Milorad Cavic to continue participating in the European swimming championships and added that the decision not to allow his further participation represents a defeat for sport.
In reaction to
LEN’s decision to suspend Cavic from the competition because he wore a T-shirt with the inscription "Kosovo is Serbia" at the medal presentation ceremony, after having set a new European record in the 50-metre butterfly swim, Kostunica said that Cavic is ready to continue winning and breaking European records.
The entire country is proud of Milorad Cavic's victory, setting a new European record. Being the best in Europe, Cavic wore on his shirt the most important sentence from the UN Charter, which guarantees that Kosovo is a part of Serbia. That is why the entire nation is even more proud of Cavic's great victory, said the Serbian Prime Minister.
He said that the decision to suspend Cavic's represents a defeat for sport and is a petty-political and dismal attempt to legitimise violence even in sporting competitions.
I call on the sensible and responsible people in the European Swimming League to allow Cavic to continue competing because he is ready to keep on winning and breaking European records, Kostunica said.
