The Office of the Prime Minister stated tonight that the Serbian Constitution clearly defines the province of Kosovo-Metohija as an integral part of Serbia and that parliament, setting out directly from the Constitution, adopted the Resolution confirming the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia.
The Serbian government’s website gives the statement in full.
“The Constitution of the Republic of Serbia clearly defines the province of Kosovo-Metohija as an integral part of Serbia’s territory and the National Assembly, setting out directly from the Constitution, adopted the Resolution confirming the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country on December 26, 2007.
On February 14, the Serbian government, annulling the decision of a declaration of independence to create a fictitious state on Serbian territory, reaffirmed the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. The same decision was made by the Serbian parliament on February 18, when on the basis of the Serbian Constitution the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia was affirmed.
All the resolutions adopted by Serbian parliament reaffirmed the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia based on the Serbian Constitution. The cabinet of the Serbian President participated in the drafting of all these documents which affirm the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia.
The reason for adopting these resolutions is more than obvious. Serbia is facing the fact that a unilateral declaration of independence was made by the province, that certain countries illegally recognised this fictitious state, and that the EU in violation of the UN Charter and Resolution 1244 deployed its mission EULEX in Kosovo-Metohija.”
