Rule of international law must be re-established in Balkans

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica stated today in his address to students protesting in Kosovska Mitrovica that the rule of international law must be re-established in the Balkans and the illegally proclaimed independence of the fictitious state annulled.

The Serbian government’s official web site gives the Prime Minister’s speech in full.

“Dear friends, honourable students,

I would like to say a few words to you and show my personal support. You are the youth of Serbia and to all of us you are now showing how to love one’s country, how to love Kosovo, how to love Serbia. The entire country is proud of you and truly supports you.

I would like to say a word on the policy of force you are fighting against. The US has taken the historic responsibility upon itself for wrecking the principles of international law which peace and stability in the world are based on. Nothing can be compared to this, not even the 1938 Munich Agreement under which Hitler took control over the Sudetenland. Serbia has not signed any unworthy paper surrendering Kosovo-Metohija and will never do so.

During this big and difficult temptation the Serbian nation showed the strength and dignity of a big nation who knows what law, justice and freedom are. Today you can feel the pride in Serbia, the pride of a free nation that will not succumb to violence and injustice. Every day we as a nation will offer resistance until the US is assured that the rule of international law in the Balkans must be re-established and that the declaration of a fictitious state must be annulled.

Looking down on us, America possibly thought that the Serbian nation is a small one and that they can do what they want with us, but as time goes by America will realise the greatness of Serbia in its fight for law and justice. Every day Serbia shall step by step, win victories in this fight and in the end it will win. Seeing as Kosovo is Serbia, that’s how it was and how it will be. You, dear friends, are the road sign for Serbia today, and we shall follow you,” the Prime Minister said in his address.
