Newly-elected President of the Republic of Serbia Boris Tadic swore oath today before Serbian parliament members at the ceremonial session at the main parliament building, beginning his five-year mandate.

The President of the Republic swore oath by reading and signing the text established by the new Constitution, after which the national anthem "Boze Pravde" (God of Justice) was performed.
Tadic said before parliament members that he will never give up the fight for Kosovo-Metohija and Serbia's full membership of the EU.
I will never give up the fight for our Kosovo and with all my power I will strive for Serbia’s entry into the EU, Tadic said and underlined that it is the task of all state institutions to work at full capacity to protect the interests of Serbian citizens, the country's economic progress, the European outlook and the preservation of Serbia's sovereignty and integrity.
Citizens rightfully expect us to work for their welfare and that is why they chose us. By their choice, the citizens have set the goal. It is important to achieve unity, but unity is not the goal in itself, but the programme citizens voted for, and they voted for a strong and stable Serbia, economically prosperous, respected country, an EU member, the Serbian President said.
The session was attended by state officials, including Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic, ministers, Serbian parliament Speaker Oliver Dulic, representatives of traditional churches and religious communities, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and His Royal Highness Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic with his wife Katarina.
Tadic swore oath after parliament accepted the Serbian Electoral Commission’s report on the results of the presidential election, organised in accordance with the new Constitution and election laws.
The text of the oath sworn by the president reads as follows: "I swear that I will dedicate myself with all my powers to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, including Kosovo-Metohija as its integral part, as well as to exercise human and minority rights and freedoms, respect and defence of the Constitution and laws, preservation of peace and welfare of all citizens of the Republic of Serbia and that I will fulfil all my duties with responsibility and in good faith."
