Serbian parliament Speaker Oliver Dulic held consultations with representatives of caucuses who agreed to hold a formal parliament session tomorrow at noon or on February 15 at the latest, at which re-elected President Boris Tadic will be sworn in.
In a statement to the press, Dulic stressed that the formal session will be held in consultation with the Serbian Electoral Committee so that all legal deadlines are met, adding that the president’s oath will round off the election process and give full legitimacy to the institute of president.
He added that at tomorrow’s session the Serbian government is due to adopt a document, regarding the way state organs will react in case the independence of Kosovo-Metohija is actually declared on February 17, and forward it to parliament for adoption.
Dulic expressed expectation that a parliament session dedicated to the government’s proposal to annul illegal acts by Kosovo’s interim authorities will be held on February 18 or 19.
Hard times await Serbia and it is no secret that February 17 might be the date when Kosovo Albanians will proclaim independence, parliament Speaker said.
He confirmed that 144 MPs withdrew their proposal for an extraordinary session to discuss the sending of the EU mission to the province and noted that national unity on Kosovo needs to be demonstrated in the coming days.
Dulic added that Serbia’s cooperation with the EU has not been brought into question as it is Serbia’s strategic issue. He also expressed expectation that parliament will work on speeding up the country’s European integration in the upcoming period.
