The agreement on use of IPA funds, according to which Serbia will be provided €1 billion from the European budget for the period from 2007 to 2011, was signed in Belgrade on November 29.
During the upcoming five years, these funds will be used for building institutions which includes reforms in public administration, judiciary and police, local development, support to the media and civil society, and for socio-economic development implying reforms in education, employment, economic development and infrastructure.
In the area of quicker processes of European integration funds will be used for harmonising laws in the fields of environmental protection, agriculture, energy, as well as in cooperation with countries in the region for cross-border cooperation.
The entire amount will be distributed over a period of five years, so that funds planned for this year are worth €186.7 million, for 2008 €190.9 million, for 2009 €194.8 million, for 2010 €198.7 million and for 2011 €202.9 million.
Per capita this amount for Serbia is €103, which is less than for Montenegro, Macedonia and Croatia, and more than for Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Turkey.
Serbian State Secretary at the Finance Ministry Slobodan Ilic said that the signing of this agreement has created conditions for further acceleration of relations between the Serbian government and the EU.
