The National Library is one of the most important institutions in the country and it has not been renovated since 1973.
Director of the National Library Sreten Ugricic said that the total value of reconstruction works is RSD 184 million, and that they will include all reading-rooms, whose capacities will be increased by 40%.
The large reading-room will be completely renovated and wireless Internet will be installed there.
Ugricic said that new reading-rooms will be opened for the blind and those with impaired sight, for maps, cards, engravings, posters and similar, as well as a new atrium-café. Reconstruction will include toilets, entrance hall, exhibition space, entrance for employees, floors, the ceiling and lightning.
Djilas specified that RSD 100 million has been set aside for this project from the National Investment Plan and added that the Ministry has provided an additional RSD 84 million.
Architect and the author of the reconstruction project is Zoran Radojicic, while the contractor is "PMC inzenjering" company.
The reading-rooms of the library will be closed until July 1, 2008.
