Preventive medical examinations were organised near the St Sava Temple in Belgrade to mark World Heart Day. Speaking on this occasion Ilic said that it is very important to promote a healthy lifestyle since preventive actions can reduce the possibility of heart disease.
According to Ilic, heart attacks and strokes are the main cause of death all over the world of which 17.5 million people die annually, and 80% of these are from undeveloped and developing countries.
At an event, which was held under the slogan “Together for a Healthy Heart”, interested members of the public had the opportunity to get their blood pressure and cholesterol levels measured at stands of Belgrade health centres.
Organisers of the event were the Serbian Ministry of Health, the City of Belgrade Secretariat for Health Care, the Milan Jovanovic Batut Health Institute, the Belgrade City Public Health Institute and 16 health care centres in Belgrade.
The event was sponsored by the Red Cross of Serbia, the company Galenika, the pharmacy Beograd, the organisation Zelena Jabuka, public company Zelenilo Beograd and the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline.
